All dentists have the same goal – to grow their practice to be as successful and profitable as possible! Many dentists assume that this goal can be reached by improving their website or sending out mailers, but it turns out the answer to building a successful practice is much simpler – make sure your patients are comfortable.

Even with all of the marketing advances, word-of-mouth is still the best way to bring in new patients. But it can difficult to get a referral from current patients. The best ways to improve your chances of having a patient recommend you to friends and family is to establish a personal relationship with them. Your patients want to get to know you and feel comfortable with you, your staff, and your practice.

Ask yourself and your staff what you can be doing to improve the comfort of your patients. This can be as simple as providing amenities in the office, and rewording the way you describe the procedures done in your office in order to make them sound less scary and intimidating.

Small talk is another great way to get to know your patients better. People love to talk about themselves and their families. Spending a few extra minutes with each patient can improve the chances of each one recommending you a few friends or family members. Another good idea is to instruct your staff to use your patients’ first names when greeting them. No one wants to feel like they’re just another chart at their dental office. They want to feel like you’re taking the time to get to know them as a person.
