What Motivates Your Dental Team

It’s a mistake to assume that compensation is all that matters to your dental team. If this were the case, then highly paid teams would face little or no work challenges. Your team is motivated by many factors other than compensation, no matter the circumstances.

  • Consistent Positive Feedback – One of the main reasons for poor morale and teamwork is a lack of positive reinforcement. No dental team has ever complained about receiving too much specific positive feedback about their performance! Try to make an effort daily or weekly to express your appreciation for your dental team.
  • Delegation Of Responsibility – A team who sits around the office bored will not be a happy or productive team. During team meetings or huddles, communicate with your team. Ask them what they think can be done to make the practice more successful. Often, the front office staff will be aware of any issues before you will. Delegate these responsibilities to your team. As they make the practice more successful, they’ll feel pride, a sense of satisfaction, and even more loyalty to the practice and the rest of the team!
  • Team Building Activities – Lastly, your team will benefit greatly from participating in team building exercises. In addition to relaxing your team and allowing them to have some fun, it will also help bring you and your staff together and make you all more comfortable with one another. Ask your team for any fun ideas they may have! Patients who come in to your office will sense the friendships and camaraderie, and it will make them feel more comfortable in your office as well!

Compensation isn’t everything. By providing positive reinforcement, helping your team to develop additional skills, and providing more opportunities for fun in your office, your team will be happier and more motivated than ever!
