We know how busy the dental profession can be. Because of that, it can be tempting to rush through appointments with patients in order to complete all the things you need to do in a day. However, if you want to keep patients returning to your office, it’s important that you learn how to properly communicate with them.
Learning To Communicate With Your Patients
Below are a few simple ways you can make sure you’re properly communicating with your patients and making them feel heard:
- The first thing you need to make sure you’re doing is making and keeping eye contact while your patient is speaking. This is an important part of communication in any relationship, working or personal. If you aren’t making eye contact, this can make your patients feel as if you’re not really listening to them or taking their concerns seriously.
- Second, it’s important that, whether you’re on the phone or in person, you eliminate any distractions that could make it seem as if you aren’t listening. Remember that your patients pay hard-earned money to visit your office and they deserve your full attention. Your patients may be nervous about their treatment or condition and it’s important that they know they’re your priority.
- Lastly, before you leave the exam room, make sure to ask your patients if they have any further questions or concerns about their appointment. Many patients won’t ask unless prompted because they don’t want to take up your time or ask questions they think may seem foolish. Make sure your patients know that you have plenty of time to answer any questions.
When your patients feel heard and understood, they will continue to visit your office and may even recommend you to friends or family. To learn more about keeping your patients happy or for any of your bookkeeping needs, please contact Dental Bookkeeping today.
