The goal of every dental practice is to be successful and profitable. We know that you want to provide the best service for your patients, to ensure that they’ll return to your office for many years to come!

A large part of your success lies with your hygiene team. So, how can you be sure to increase the profitability of your team for the benefit of your patients and your practice? Below are a few tried and true ways to help your team become as successful as possible:

  • Improve patient experience – For their first appointment, you may want to consider scheduling new patients for a little bit longer than usual. You can use this time to get to know your patient and what issues have brought them to you. Once you’ve gotten to know your patient and his or her goals, your team can tailor the appointment to best meet these needs. Treat each patient like family and you’ll not only increase patient retention, but you’ll probably also receive plenty of referrals!
  • Focus on patient education – The standard appointment time is around 45 minutes to an hour. However, by increasing this time to around 70 minutes, you can not only have time to bond with each patient but to make sure that the patient is educated about his or her dental health. Spending time with each patient and thoroughly explaining the procedures and issues they may be facing, shows your patients that you respect them and their health.
  • Patient communication – Communicate with your patients in a way they’ll understand. Make sure your team is encouraging your patients in their dental goals instead of placing guilt trips on them for not having ideal habits. By including your patients in their dental care, they’ll be happier and more motivated to take care of their smile!
  • Use your hygiene equipment to impress – Using the latest technology will not only make your job easier, but it will improve patient education by allowing them to see and understand the need for any procedures they may need to have. By investing in this technology, your patients will know they’re in the best hands with your office.

When you treat your patients well, respect them, and get to know them, their trust in your will grow. Once you have a patient’s trust, they’re much more likely to make and keep appointments, and even refer family and friends to your office. In this way, providing a high level of care will increase profitability for your practice!
