Even if you’re not aware of it, your dental practice is online right now, being reviewed by past or current patients. Whether the reviews are good or bad, potential patients are reading them before they visit the dentist office. This means that you need to be aware of these reviews and how to deal with them.

Here at Dental Bookkeeping, we’ve listed a few ways that you can stay proactive and be aware of your online reputation and how to manage it:

• Know what’s out there – Check your social media accounts often, and set up a Google Alert to let you know when anyone mentions your practice online. You can’t address problems or issues that you aren’t aware of.
• Cool off before reacting – It can be difficult to read bad reviews and your first instinct might be to dispute the review. Lashing out at the reviewer will only make things worse. Take a few minutes to cool off before you react in any way.
• Delegate the responsibility – Have a staff member in place to read and react to these online reviews. Make sure you have a plan in place for how these reviews should be handled, including a plan for a worst-case scenario.
• Act quickly – React quickly and decisively. The way you approach a bad review can make all the difference. Be honest about the possibility that your practice dropped the ball, and issue a sincere apology if it’s warranted. Use a bad review as an opportunity to make a change and do better next time.
