Performance reviews are an important part of regularly touching base with the members of your team. However, once the wage-related issues have been discussed, many dentists have a difficult time figuring out what else needs to be covered during an employee performance review.

Performance reviews can be the ideal time for you to take a minute to learn a little more about the individual members of your team. Take the time to gather this information about the employees in your office, and watch as the relationships grow and the practice becomes stronger than ever!

Performance Reviews – What To Cover

The first thing you may want to consider when conducting performance reviews is asking your employees how they would prefer to get feedback from you or in what way they best learn in the workplace. Each member of your team is unique and will react in different ways to the many various coaching methods.

Below are a few other things to consider asking during performance reviews:

  • Ask your employees what they believe was their biggest/best contribution to the office in the past year. Ask what inspired them to take initiative.
  • Gather ideas from your employees on ways they believe the dental practice can be improved upon.
  • Make sure to ask if there are any ongoing conflicts that you may need to help them address.

As a busy dentist, it may be hard for you to find time in your schedule to have these productive conversations with your staff. Performance reviews can be a great excuse to gain valuable insight into the views, opinions, worries, and feelings of your employees.
