The dental profession is a field that is constantly changing and improving because of new technology. This is great for our teeth, but presents many new challenges for today’s dentists. From patient care, staff issues, and money problems, these challenges are having a negative impact on dental practices all over the world.
New Challenges In Dentistry
Below are a few of the biggest concerns in the current state of dentistry:
- Student Loan Debt – Student loan debt for dentists has been on the rise. It can take many dentists years to pay these loans off. This problem, combined with the rising cost of dental school, make it difficult for many dental offices to get out of debt.
- Dental Lab Closures – Because products are being produced out of the country, around 2,000 American dental labs have had to close down. There is also not enough regulation on these products, causing many dentists to be frustrated with the lack of productive research happening in the labs.
- Corporate Dentistry – Larger brands are now offering additional services such as groceries, clothing, yard care, hair and nail salons, optometry, and even dentistry. These corporate dentists are often able to offer lower prices than private dentists.
- Lack Of Support – Lastly, many dentists don’t feel like there’s enough support for new dentists trying to succeed and become established. This lack of support may threaten the future of dental practices.
Luckily, these challenges can be overcome. Your priorities should lie in providing exceptional dental care to your patients, creating a successful marketing plan, and enlisting the help of professionals who can help you run your practice.
