Many dentists have common misconceptions about how to market using social media. Buying into these myths can have a negative impact on your dental practice, which means you need to be well informed regarding the do’s and don’ts of social media marketing.
Social Media Marketing Myths
Social media can enhance the success of your dental office, but you need to be aware of the myths and truths. Below are a few of the many misconceptions regarding social media:
- “Your patients don’t use social media” – This is absolutely a myth! It’s a lie that only young people use social media websites. In fact, the numbers have shifted quite a bit in the last few years. The latest data shows that young adults (under the age of 24) have moved to Twitter and Instagram, while Facebook is currently being used most by older adults. This data suggests that Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter can all be utilized by your dental practice to make sure your entire audience is being reached.
- “Social media is much too time consuming” – Social media can tend to be a bit overwhelming for those who don’t use it regularly. However, we’re willing to bet that a few of your current employees are already social media experts. Delegating the social media posting to a current employee can be a great idea for those who find the social media sites to be impossible to master.
- “Your followers will block you if you post too often” – This is a myth, although it does tend to depend on the content of your posts. Avoid reposting the same information multiple times, as you’ll begin to sound like a broken record. Your posts should be interesting, meaningful, and informative and try to include posts that engage your patients and add them to the conversation.
